Provide Best Legal Services To Fijians: Minister Koya

Minister for Industry Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya opens the Legal Ai

Legal Aid Commission lawyers have been reminded that they owe the public the best services they can deliver.

This was the message by the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Hon. Faiyaz Koya as he opened the commission’s three day Family Law workshop.

“You should remember that Legal Aid now provides premium service. As such, the expectation in terms of service delivery from you lawyers is of a very high standard,” he told the lawyers in Suva today.

Minister Koya also cautioned them to be mindful that most of the clients that come to seek the commission’s legal services may not fully comprehend Fiji’s legal system.

“You therefore have to show compassion at times, take time to explain things to them so that they fully understand how Legal Aid can assist them,” he said.

“Most importantly, clients need to be served in a timely and efficient manner – at all times.”

For Government’s part, Minister Koya said substantial funding has been allocated to the commission to enable the Government’s commitment to make legal and judiciary services easily accessible and affordable to Fijians.

“Remember, we want the Legal Aid Commission to be an organisation which is professional, efficient, and provides quality legal services to the nation. It is you who can make this possible,” he said.

Director Legal Aid Sunil Sharma said the workshop was very practical. He said it was hoped that the participants would come out of it better equipped to deal with Family Law especially since it was important to understand the needs and requirements of clients.
